Catechetical school

Tuesday

If you or your child wish to join the Orthodox Church, you complete the catechetical school before being baptised.

The school usually takes one year. Students attend the Sunday Liturgy and the Tuesday evening Bible lessons. The parish priest can shorten or extend the course when circumstances require it.

You can start at any time of year. Send us a message and Fr Branko will get back to you.

Ladies' Auxiliaries

The Ladies’ Auxiliaries, or Kolo srpskih sestara, is a volunteer women’s charity. It was founded in Belgrade in 1903 and established in this parish in 1968. It exists in almost every Serbian parish in the diaspora.

The society supports people in need regardless of religion or background, organises humanitarian aid, and puts on refreshments after Sunday and other services.

Its patron feast is the Entrance of the Theotokos, marked on 4 December each year or the nearest Sunday.

Serbian parish school and folklore

Friday

The school has run since the parish was founded. For a time, the parish was registered as a “church-school community”.

There are three subjects, and every child takes all three:

  • Serbian language, with Serbian culture and history
  • The basics of the Orthodox faith
  • Folkloric dancing

Lessons run on Friday afternoons, with start times depending on the children’s ages.

The school is registered under the NSW Government Community Languages Schools Program. It is funded by parents’ contributions and by the church community.

Enrolments are accepted in January and February only.

You can also speak to Dragan Petković, the coordinator, on 0403 506 575.
